basic skills group lessons

Online registration for Session 1 of the 2024/25 season is now open!

Session 1 runs from November 30th through January 12th. Classes are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings between 8am and 11:45am. Please see the registration link for more specific class times.

what to expect and how to prepare for group lessons

After registering for KOI group lessons, you’ll receive an email receipt confirming your lesson day and time. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your lesson time in order to check in and pick up rental skates (if needed). Students will be given a name tag with their group name (level) and class time. At class time, coaches will call roll and invite their students to meet them on the ice. Coaches for Basic 1 and Snowplow Sam 1 classes will start the first lesson of the series with an off-ice orientation prior to moving onto the ice.

Students should wear clothing appropriate for the weather, including gloves. We strongly recommend helmets for all Basic Skills students, and require that all Snowplow Sam students (ages 5 and 6) wear helmets. You may bring your own, or borrow one of ours.

Lessons are 25 minutes long. While students are in class, parents are encouraged to give them space to fully engage in the lesson. (The roof terrace makes a great observation area!) Students are invited and encouraged to stay (or return) for the 12pm public skating session to practice the skills learned in class.

If you have any questions or concerns at all regarding your student’s placement, progress, etc., please don’t hesitate to speak with Coach Mary (mkhandaker@fdia.org) or Coach Jordan (jgraham@fdia.org).
